{"id":2355,"date":"2020-03-08T17:12:13","date_gmt":"2020-03-08T17:12:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/policecommissioner.net\/pcc-allocates-1-million-to-support-police-to-manage-covid-19\/"},"modified":"2020-03-08T17:12:13","modified_gmt":"2020-03-08T17:12:13","slug":"pcc-allocates-1-million-to-support-police-to-manage-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/policecommissioner.net\/pcc-allocates-1-million-to-support-police-to-manage-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"A million pound fund as police step-up response to Coronavirus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\\\"p1\\\"><span class=\\\"s1\\\">Dealing with an episode like <a href=\\\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/topical-events\/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response\\\">Coronavirus<\/a> is why we kept our reserves intact\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p2\\\"><span class=\\\"s1\\\">With events surrounding Coronavirus changing almost by the hour it seems, I have decided to release \u00a31 million pounds from the Constabulary\u2019s reserves to help prepare for its impact on Gloucestershire.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Police role<\/h3>\n<p class=\\\"p2\\\"><span class=\\\"s1\\\">This is proving to be an extremely fluid situation. The Chief Constable Rod Hansen and I have been in constant touch\u00a0and I have assured him the fund can be used to facilitate police activity in support of efforts to contain and manage the likely spread of the Covid 19 virus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p2\\\"><span class=\\\"s1\\\">The <a href=\\\"https:\/\/www.gloucestershire-pcc.gov.uk\/reserves-strategy\/\\\">Constabulary\\&#8217;s reserves<\/a> are held to deal with exceptional events. The circumstances in which we now find ourselves illustrate the importance of maintaining them throughout the last 10 years of austerity. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>The right resources<\/h3>\n<p class=\\\"p2\\\"><span class=\\\"s1\\\">Covid 19 is just such an exceptional event and we are entering an unprecedented period of uncertainly. It is right, therefore, that the Chief Constable is given the resources to respond in the most effective way possible and if more funds are needed they will also be provided.
