The story of Gloucestershire’s Neighbourhood Enguagement Vehicle – NEV

Back in 2012 when I became Gloucesteshire’s first Police & Crime Commissioner the force was shrinking from 1371 full time officers to just 1080 because of £36,000,000 of cuts to the force by the  government.  It was devestating.

Times were hard, but in my manifesto I had promised to improve contact with the public so I needed to find ways to do that without breaking the bank.

I needed to be imaginative,  so I decided to buy a second-hand display vehicle that had had a rather easy life promoting Firestone Tyres

It was a bargain and before long became known as NEV….Gloucestershire Cosstabularys much loved Neighbourhood Enguagement Vehicle.  Of course there were those who accused me of wasting precious money, but 11 years on, thousands of mile on the clock and regualar visits to all parts of our wonderful County,  it’s still going strong.

As PCC I kept all of my manifesto promises and didn’t need to dance on a pinhead to trying to fool the public with misleading unverified claims.

I’m proud of Nev, its served us well,  so much so that we bought another one, KEV a couple of years later,  again for a bargain price.

If I’m elected as Gloucestershire’s PCC again in the May 2nd elections I’ll look forward to visiting Nev and Kev again, who knows where they will be, in the Forest, South Cerney, the Borough or City?

My promise to you is I’ll  be keeping them in service whislt looking out for future bargains………………….
